New mug to remind me of Indy
First trip ever to Indianapolis and Indiana in general. It was a quick trip but it led to one of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. What an unexpected surprise.
I usually try to stay away from chain restaurants by experiencing a little bit of the culinary uniqueness of a city. Harry and Izzy’s delivered even though it’s a spin-off from an Indianapolis institution, St. Elmo Steak House, it is no cookie-cutter experience.
Harry and Izzy’s does serve the very famous St. Elmo’s shrimp cocktail and man are they good. Assuming you like horseradish you will want to splurge on this appetizer.
Using the Devour Menu, their version of a prixe fixe, three-course menu is definitely the way to go and trust me you will devour it. Don’t head here on a full stomach!
This is the best $40 you will spend like ever:
Appetizer – hands down go with the shrimp cocktail
Entree – hands down go with the filet medium with a dollop of gorgonzola butter on it (or the rib eye for a more manly choice) and a side of brussel sprouts sauteed in bacon
Dessert – okay I had the creme brulee but the signature brownie was the big hit. It looked great but I’m just not very into desserts. But if you like chocolate, then definitely go with the brownie
Paired with excellent wine selections, the Northside location has an amazing two-story, 2,700 bottle, wine cellar. Trust me you’ll spend more on wine than your food and enjoy every minute of it.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated, comfortable and supports having a great time with friends, family or in my case, clients.
Sometimes my family thinks my job which does, at times, involve traveling and eating at great restaurants is non-stop fun. I usually tell them, it’s really not that exciting, but every once in awhile I stumble across a gem like Harry and Izzy’s and I think, yeah, this is one to be jealous of.
If in Indy don’t miss it!
