Graduation Time

Congratulations to the class of 2016! Whether it’s high school, college or 8th grade – it’s a big milestone.  I have so many friends and family members with graduates this Spring. And yes all my graduation cards are late but will soon be in the mail!

I’ve watched all of these kids grow up, facing and overcoming all types of challenges on the road to becoming awesome ‘adults.’ They’ll never really know the extended support system and cheering section they’ve had throughout these years.  We laughed with and cried with their parents and grandparents from their first steps to first girl(boy)friends and beyond.

A lot of times kids these days get a bad rap but if you’ve spent any time with them you know 1) they are way smarter than we were at their age;  2) they grew up in a world without borders and they embrace all types of cultures; 3) they are funny – they make so many connections beyond their years; 4) they are confident (I’m going to chalk that one up to all the awesome parents I know); and 5) and perhaps most importantly these kids want to make the world a better place.

And they have the smarts, the talent and the drive to do it.

I’m not a big Hillary fan but one thing she did get right is that it truly does take a village. So, as we continue to all be concerned about where this country is headed, take a deep breath and take a closer look at our youth, our future, and you’ll know it’s going to be okay.

So, as I head into the graduation festivities today for my own 8th grader (soon to be rising freshman) I want to say thank you to all my friends and family that have supported us on this journey.  And with three boys in high school next year – just think of the fun blogs you have in store!  And don’t forget to hug a graduate today!
