I uber’d down to the Old Market. Best $15 investment as I really did not want to deal with parking and okay, I really wanted to try that Moscow Mule.
First stop, the Twisted Fork. I did have a nice glass of pinot with dinner, but my way cooler friend was drinking from a copper mug while we ate comfort food (think mac n’ cheese and chicken pot pie). The restaurant is comfortable and even with a lot of wood and brick, it was not too loud, making it easy to catch up with good friends over dinner. Another positive, the tables are not right on top of each other and even with a large banquet table near us at the back it did not impact our service or experience. The wait staff was attentive but not overbearing and we did not feel rushed to get in and out, even though it was a Saturday night. Kudos also for taking reservations for all sizes of parties even on a weekend! Other than ordering from a lunch menu for dinner, all was good. I guess that means lunch prices are still in effect!
With a definite chill (okay it was freezing) in the air, a night cap at Mr. Toad’s was in order. There is no better place to be snowed in at, I’m just saying as it wasn’t actually snowing. Those big windows, the cozy, library feel, but with libations and plenty of good conversations going on. I was so glad to see Toad’s hasn’t changed much. I still love that there is a great mix of age groups and types of patrons. It is still relaxed and unpretentious. I do wish they would invest in copper mugs though, it’s not nearly as cool to drink my first Moscow Mule in a regular old glass. On second thought, don’t do it Toad’s – stay just the way you are!
